the boys on fire
About 3kStatic.

Now in its sixth year, 3kStatic currently records for the dPulse and INgrooves labels, and is distributed in the US by Synergy, and in Europe by Cargo Records Germany and Sony BMG.

Continuing to forge its presence on the underground electronic music scene, 3kStatic fuses an eclectic, Dadaist soundscape that draws on the influence of electronica pioneers such as Cabaret Voltaire, Tackhead and Meat Beat Manifesto with an underlying theme of personal and social insurgence.

The resulting cross-genre experimentation has been best described as 'anarchist disco' and 'post-industrial house', and with the breakout FM radio singles 'Drumbeat Litany' (2003), 'All The Way Alive' and 'The Music' (2004-2005) to its credit, 3kStatic has made steady commercial inroads while staying well outside the realm of typical dance/club fare.

Beginning with the 2003 release of 'Drumbeat Litany', the music of 3kStatic has progressively evolved to include increasingly more direct political statements - often in the form of spoken word samples meant to be interpreted literally - while also continuing to explore a somewhat cynical and paranoid world view that seems to center on the ironic foibles of the subject matter. This stance - coupled with a reliance of sounds both created and found - has established 3kStatic as a non-commercial project that nevertheless has gained acceptance with both critics and listeners....

If you're not familiar with Dadaism or with the concepts of 'found art' or 'found sound' here's a cursory introduction:

< DADA IS AN ART MOVEMENT...That also gained popularity as a means of agitation against the status quo in Europe in the early part of the last century. Adhering to a core philosophy that rejected all prevailing standards in art and literature, and a desire to of remake art through 'anti-art', the Dadaist movement was equally associated with radical social insurgence.

Examples of Dadaist expression include the use of 'cut up' and 'found art' techniques, incindinary poetry and live performances (one notable 1920 exhibition resulted in a full-scale riot that rocked the Paris elite).

Although the movement would be supplanted by Surrealism after the mid-Twenties, the Dadaists' combination of cut-up techniques attacks on politics, art, philosophy and almost anything held sacred would also later influence many of electronic music's pioneers....FOUND SOUND does not imply that we do not create or perform our own musical ideas.

It also does not mean that we simply assimilate random samples of other artists' compositions. What it does mean is that 3kStatic music is created from many diverse and sometimes disparate ideas and elements.

From time to time, we may incorporate external samples in our compositions. In those incidences where external samples are used, we are certain to provide proper recognition and credit for another artist's creative work. >
